Chat with Strangers Who Do Not Know Your Story
Strangers don't know your story, and that's the main reason to chat with strangers at all. Friends know your history, which is exactly why some things are hard to say to them. With a stranger there is no history. You can admit you hate your job, rehearse a difficult conversation, ask a dumb question about another country or just describe your day to someone who has no opinion about it yet.
People go looking for someone to chat with for plain reasons, and sometimes they just want to chat with someone who will not bring it up again next week: a quiet night, a new city, a language to practise, a thought that needs saying out loud. Talking with strangers is an old habit. Trains, bus stops and hostel kitchens did it long before anyone could chat with strangers online.
Why people talk with strangers online
Some want to talk to a stranger because it's lower stakes than calling a friend at midnight. Others want practice: a language, small talk, a bit of confidence. And some just like to meet random people and hear how an ordinary day looks somewhere else.
